New Natural Gas Power Plant Opens Today

(Oregon, OH) Officials will cut the ribbon on Ohio's newest natural-gas fired power plant today.

Ohio Governor John Kasich will be among the dignitaries on hand for the official opening and tour of the Oregon Clean Energy Center, being billed as the state's newest, most efficient clean-burning natural gas power plant-- and the state's first privately funded effort.

The power plant will provide electricity to more than 700,000 homes in the region-- a quarter-million homes more than the aging Davis Besse Nuclear Power plant to the east.

FirstEnergy’s coal-fired Bayshore Power Plant nearby plans to shut down by 2020, prompting plans for a second, $900 million natural gas-fired power plant by Oregon Clean Energy, which is expected to start construction early next year.
