Indians Win 21 Straight; Set New AL Record

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The 2017 Indians has carved out their place in the record books.

Cleveland defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-3 Wednesday afternoon to win their 21st straight game. That sets a new American League record for consecutive wins, besting the mark set by the 2002 Oakland A's. The win now ties the Tribe with the 1935 Chicago Cubs for the second-best winning streak in baseball history. The all-time record is held by the 1916 New York Giants at 26 games.

Indians pitcher Mike Clevenger got his 10th win of the season, spreading six hits and three runs over five and two-thirds innings. He struck out six and walked two. Right fielder Jay Bruce opened the scoring for Cleveland with a three-run home run in the first inning. Edwin Encarnacion singled home Jose Ramirez in the third and Roberto Perez smacked a solo homer in the 7th to round out the scoring for the Tribe.
