Sylvania Educators Get Diversity Training

(Sylvania, OH) Sylvania students have the day off, but the district's educators are getting a day-long lesson in cultural competence.

More than 500 Sylvania teaching staff are gathered today at Northview High School for a teacher professional development day aimed at helping them become more aware of student ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The diversity training is focusing on better serving each individual student and gaining a better understanding of its widening student body, including Muslims, Latinos, and others.

Sylvania has become a haven for Syrian refugee families in recent months.
