Regional Water Authority Agreement in Works

(Toledo, OH) Could an agreement for a regional water authority be finalized in the coming days and weeks?

Toledo's new mayor represents a change in attitude on the sale of the Collins Park water treatment plant to a proposed regional water authority, so a deal appears imminent between the Glass City and eight suburban communities on what would be known as the Toledo Area Water Authority.

Suburban mayors and other elected officials have negotiated through a mediator for nearly a year on a proposed agreement. The terms could go two ways-- either outright sale of the water plant or ownership after a 30-year lease.

The aims of a regional water authority are to even out water rates long-term among Toledo's current customers and ensure a safe regional drinking water supply under the control of an outside regional board of directors.
