New I-475 Interchange Starts to Take Shape

(Springfield Twp., OH) The first steps toward a new I-475 interchange at Dorr Street are taking shape.

ODOT is asking the Lucas County Plan Commission to rezone as commercial property more than 70 acres of land on both sides of I-475 along Dorr Street in Springfield Township. The zoning change allows for the widening of Dorr Street to four lanes from Holland-Sylvania to McCord Road before the new I-475 interchange is built.

Designs show roundabouts on either side of I-475. ODOT has indicated more than 20 houses will need to be demolished to make way for the road widening and interchange construction.

State transportation officials also predict properties not affected by the project will be redeveloped as more intense commercial or higher density multifamily use in the future-- because of better access from the new interchange.

Construction on the $40 million project begins in 2020.
