30,000 Expected Downtown for St. Patrick's Day

(Toledo, OH) St. Patrick's Day in downtown Toledo is expected to be one big Irish party.

Because St. Patrick's Day falls on a Saturday this year, tourism leaders estimate 30,000 people will pack various bars and pubs throughout downtown Toledo.

Events begin Friday evening with the Shamrockin' Shuffle, where 2,000 runners are expected to take part in a three-mile race through downtown streets.

The 12th annual Shamrockin' The Blarney weekend continues early Saturday morning with corned-beef breakfast wraps and the Toledo firefighters pipe and drum corps. A tent party has closed off Huron Street for the weekend with live music and green beer.

Hensville features indoor fun with a DJ at Fleetwoods and an acoustic Irish band at the new Holy Toledo tavern.

But authorities will be watching closely, because that's part of the Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Area, allowing patrons to carry their drinks door-to-door.
