(Toledo, OH) Toledo is getting some federal clean-up money.
The federal EPA is awarding Toledo $600,000 in the form of a brownfields assessment grant. The money will be used to assess, clean up, and redevelop underutilized or blighted properties with the intent to transform those sites into assets that can generate jobs and spur economic growth.
Toledo's top brass will work with the Lucas County Land Bank to identify properties that can be cleaned up and put back on the tax rolls after they're marketed to developers for housing, manufacturing, or other uses.
This is the 20th brownfields grant awarded Toledo over the years. The first one came two decades ago-- for a North Toledo property which is now the Toledo Public Schools Chase STEM school.
