Historic Maumee School Bell Gets New Life

(Maumee, OH) A little history one place means a new tradition somewhere else.

That's the case for the school bell at the historic Union Elementary School in Maumee. The school bell dates back to 1870 and once rang the start of the academic day-- but the bell also spent time in the basement and in front of the now-shuttered elementary school  for years.

But the bell has left its perch-- contractors moved it this week to Kazmaier Stadium as part of the athletic field renovations.

The bell now will sit on a stand beneath the scoreboard with the start of a new tradition-- ringing every touchdown scored this season by the Maumee High School Panther football team.
