Bank Robbery Suspect Mistakenly Released From Jail

(Toledo, OH)   The search is underway for a Toledo bank robbery suspect who slipped out of jail.

The Lucas County Sheriff's Office issued a public safety alert for the suspect, whom law enforcement calls a "dangerous fugitive."

FBI agents say Don Ellis was mistakenly released from the Lucas County Jail on Wednesday night after he deceived corrections officers by using the name of another inmate.  Ellis was in jail since Monday when he was arrested for robbing the Fifth Third Bank on Glendale Avenue.

A reward is being offered to anyone who provides the whereabouts of Ellis. Opponents of a new jail to be built in a North Toledo neighborhood used the inmate escape to make their point on why the jail should remain downtown, away from nearby homes, schools, and businesses.
