Long-Time St. John's Coach Announces Retirement

TOLEDO, Ohio - A titan of Toledo high school sports has announced he's hanging up his whistle.

WTOL 11 reports St. John's Jesuit head basketball coach Ed Heintschel announced Wednesday that he is retiring at the end of the school year.

During his time at St. John's, Heintschel lead his teams to 17 league championships, thirteen district championships in the last 19 years, six appearances in the State Final Four and three appearances in the state title game. His 725 career wins are fourth most in Ohio boys basketball history.

Heinstchel's career at St. John's started 44 years ago where he started as an English teacher, freshman football coach and junior varsity basketball coach.
