TOLEDO, Ohio - Before the Toledo Walleye take the ice to open the 2019-2020 ECHL season, the team announced Friday their captain and alternative captain for the year.
Forward T.J. Hensick will wear the 'C', while forward Shane Berschbach will serve as alternate captain.
“TJ is a proven scorer that we witnessed up close last year,” said Head Coach Dan Watson in August. “He is as gifted a player as we have ever seen here in Toledo and he brings even more than that to the locker room with his presence off of the ice.”
Hensick returns for his second season with the Walleye, playing 47 games last year while tallying 17 goals and 41 assists before being called up to the AHL's San Jose.
Berschbach returns as the all-time Walleye leader in assists (234), points (330) and games played (320). It is his sixth season with the Walleye.
The Walleye open the season Saturday afternoon in Brampton at 4 pm. They play the first 5 games of the season on the road before opening the Huntington Center on November 2.
