Lucas County 911 Consolidation Approved

TOLEDO, Ohio - A committee voted Tuesday morning to approve the consolidation of 911 communications in Lucas County.

WTOL 11 reports the 5-member 911 Planning Committee voted 4-1 to approve the consolidation. Springfield Township trustee Andy Glenn was the long "no" vote.

The measure will move 911 dispatchers from Maumee, Oregon, Sylvania, Sylvania Township and the Lucas County Sheriff's Office into the emergency services building in downtown Toledo. The committee says the move will streamline emergency responses and increase public safety.

Getting the new 911 entity up and running is estimated to take a year to 18 months.
