Saturday Coronavirus Update

This weekend is the last before the new stay at home order becomes official. The new order will begin at 11:59 p.m. Monday, April 6, the same time the first stay-at-home is set to expire.

Retail establishments, including grocery stores, must set a limit on the number of people allowed inside at one time to ensure social distancing of at least six feet. DeWine did not indicate a number for each store because he says each business is different. Each store must post the number and stop people from coming inside once they reach the number. Some in the Toledo area have already begun the process. Wal-Mart for instance has roped off a portion of its' front entrance and is counting customers as the enter and exit.

People traveling to Ohio are being asked to self quarantine for a period of 14 days. Out-of-state residents who display what could be coronavirus symptoms are instructed not to come to Ohio, except for medical care.

Campgrounds are ordered closed, but those who permanently live in a recreational vehicle at a campground can remain. State parks are not being closed, but social distancing must be practiced.

And a new dispute resolution program is being instituted. This panel will look at cases where very similar businesses are being treated differently in different counties or health districts as it concerns whether they should be open or closed. The panel will judge each situation and make a decision, DeWine said.

The U.S. death toll from the coronavirus marched to another record-setting pace early Saturday, with nearly 1,200 deaths in 24 hours.There were more than 278,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. early Saturday, according to theJohns Hopkins University data dashboard.

The Trump administration is advising people to start wearing face masks in publicto stop the spread of the coronavirus, a reversal on previous guidance that urged people not to wear masks. 

Crime rates plummeted in cities and counties across the U.S. over the second half of March as the coronavirus pandemic drove millions of residents to stay inside their homes.
