Top 5 College Fight Songs

The 2019 College Football Season is finally here! Far too often, I see people talk about the art of "amateurism" when debating the college product over the NFL. In my opinion, the difference between the two is pageantry. It's the longstanding tradition of the colors, the rivalries, and the fight songs! Being the sports nerd that I am, I love to listen to fight songs to get amped up for the season. If you're anything like me, then here are some to get you ready for the season that lies ahead. Here are my top 5 college fight songs.

First, here are some honorable mentions:

HONORABLE MENTION: NORTHWESTERN WILDCATS-GO YOU NORTHWESTERN

For those of you that don't know, I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. Although College Football isn't nearly as big over there as it is in Ohio or Michigan, that didn't stop my Dad and I from going to Northwestern games. I think their fight song is very good, and will always be under appreciated because of the on-field product. Oh and because most of us could never get into the school, but hey, tickets are cheap!

HONORABLE MENTION: GEORGIA TECH-RAMBLIN' WRECK

Georgia Tech will always be known as Georgia's little brother, and an alum will say "to hell with that!". Regardless of the outcome of the annual game, Tech wins in the fight song department by a mile. It's catchy, it's funny, and gets the point across.

NUMBER 5: FLORIDA GATORS-ORANGE AND BLUE

I gotta be honest, I miss hating the Gators. The Urban Meyer era at Florida was so damn good with Tebow and Harvin. And as much as I hated that dominant team, I love their fight song. The sad news is, don't expect to hear this one too much with Feleipe Franks at quarterback. Come back in a couple years Florida.

NUMBER 4: OHIO STATE BUCKEYES-BUCKEYE BATTLE CRY

This is the superior fight song to "Fight the Team Across the Field", so don't @me. This song conjures images of the drum major sprinting out of the tunnel at the Shoe and leading the Best Damn Band in the Land across the field in formation. You can't help but sing along to one of the greatest lyrics in College Football: "our honor defend, we'll fight to the end for Ohhh-hiii-oooo." It's going to be exciting to see what the Ryan Day era has in store for the Buckeyes, and if his reputation holds true, it'll be another rough stretch for That Team Up North. We'll get to them in a minute.

NUMBER 3: TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS-ROCKY TOP

Thank God Tennessee has Rocky Top as a fight song. I hear Neyland Stadium is cool, but with that dumpster fire of a program I wouldn't pay to see anything other than the pregame ceremonies and sing along to Rocky Top. I'm sure people watching would be fun, but outside of that, I'll stay in the Midwest. I saw Tennessee in Columbus for March Madness and I think I sang along from the Press Box every time it came on. Enjoy it, because it truly is one of the best around.

NUMBER 2: MICHIGAN WOLVERINES-THE VICTORS

My love for College Football is firmly rooted in the tradition of the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry. Michigan has a feel of elitism attached to it's name. It's the winning-est program in history, it has the largest stadium in College Football, and Bo Schembechler himself said they have the greatest fight song ever written: The Victors. It's the catchiest song on here, and just screams greatness. The song speaks for itself on this one. As great as it is, and it can be argued as the best of all time, I couldn't help but put one song over the Victors.

NUMBER 1: NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH-VICTORY MARCH

You can hate on Notre Dame all you want, they have the best fight song in College Football. It's the most recognizable, traditional, and embodies the product. Much of the credit goes to Knute Rockne for putting this small catholic school on the map. I was lucky enough to cover the Notre Dame/Michigan game at the start of last season and the Victory March didn't disappoint. It is the greatest song in College Football.
